Training & Considerations

Goldens thrive on companionship. They love people, are friendly, good natured,
and laid back. They are not suited to a kennel life, and not for people who are out
all day. They will become bored, and start to chew if left alone for long periods of
time.  They love to play with toys and panic when they cannot find one to bring to
you.

Goldens have a natural retrieving ability and love water.  This makes exercise fun
for both dog and owner.  They can become extremely dirty and muddy at times,
but are also very happy at the same time. Consider this if you are extremely house
proud. Make sure you have a room where your goldens won't spoil best carpets or
furniture when they come in from a walk.

Their biddable nature also makes them easy to train, they just love to please. As
puppies they should only be exercised in small bursts, building up gradually over
the months. Although socialisation is important, puppies should never be allowed
to become over-tired. A puppy training class is the perfect environment for them to
socialise in. Most owners will have puppies of similar ages, so will feel more at
ease in these classes. Adult goldens do require at least an hour a day exercise to
keep them healthy and mentally stimulated.

Goldens are relatively easy to train, confident and very responsive.  They just
have to please their owners, whether it be by achieving obedience or simply acting
the clown and making you laugh.  They definitely have a sense of humour and
'selective deafness'!

Please don't enter into the world of dog owners if you do not have the time
or commitment to give a dog the love he deserves. Its not a decision to be
taken lightly. If you are ready, and know whats involved, then by giving
your dog time, commitment and love, he will give you back unconditional
love forever.
